This was originally created as a study to paint in the style of Renaissance Masters with indirect painting and multiple glazing layers.
There have been questions about the title, and it is a reference to the surrealist painter Rene Magritte who often featured an apple or other object in juxtaposition to other images. The style of this painting is not surrealism, but as Camus and Magritte might say, the apple is not an apple.
